    Buzzbait under 200$

almost 75% nighttime buzzbaiting. Been using MH fast 7’ denali
40lb braid. Having some problems keeping fish on.
So help me gurus. What should I consider and why?

Use mono the stretch lets them GET the buzzbait, I love braid but it doesnt work for buzz bait for me because of less hook ups as well as the wind it grabs so the buzz bait sinks a little before you can get it going usually.

I agree with above. Otherwise get a rod with a slower taper.

You could also just tie on a mono leader which will give you the best of both worlds per se.

I think a MH Fast action rod is spot on for that application. Ease up a bit on your drag and hook sets, remember there is little to no stretch with braided line so you need to adjust for it somehow.

Just wait to you feel the fish instead of setting the hook when a fish blows up on it. I trained myself by not looking at the bait when i started the retrieve, that way i didn't take it away from the fish. At least that is what worked for me. Good luck.

What buzzbait are you using? Had issues with some seemed to short strike, switched to Megastrike Cavitrons really made a difference for me. Dont know if its the bend that exposes the hook more allowing better hookups for me. I just use a MH/F with 50lbs braid

Go to mono and add a trailer hook if your fishing open water or switch to a whopper plopper .

I’ve used the cavitrons. I also make my own with either 4/0 or 5/0 hook. With trailer hook and still have had hook up problems. I just think I’m pulling it out of their mouth with he braid and my/f rods.
What pound test mono do y’all recommend.

I throw them on 50 lb braid with medium/mod-fast composite that fishes more like a medium heavy. It’s designed to be a squarebill rod, but makes a perfect buzzbait rod!

    THIS.

trailer hooks are amazing and they work. I use them on spinnerbaits and buzzbaits.

Try a 2 power, moderate action crankbait rod. Stick with the 40 lb braid.

This is how I fish them as well. Just picked up an ALX IKOS Buzz 7' med specifically for tossing 1/8 and 1/4 buzz baits.

The Hammer Rods 6'9" or 7' Heavy are excellent 3/8 to 1/2 oz buzz bait rods. They load deeper into the blank and really help keep fish pinned.

I use 30lb braid and a 7'MH Vursa from fitzgerald. My hookup ratio is pretty good with this set up. But i think its more of waiting for that split second before sending the hook home. The rod I use has a moderate or mod-fast action so I believe that also helps. I use to use a composite rod for this but haven't noticed a difference in switching over to a graphite rod.
