Does anyone know if other trays like Comfortrol or E Z Troll are deeper than the factory Ranger trolling motor tray? Reason I ask is my buddy just put an Ultrex on his 2005 VX520, and the reason he did was he has run my Ultrex on my boat and absolutely loved it. Problem is, he would step all over the buttons all day for spot lock, heading, etc and was constantly having to screw with the thing. I step on them every once in a while, but not as much as he did, but I still do. When he installed Ultrex his on his boat, he told me he does not have the button problem because his tray is deeper and the buttons are far enough out of the way that he doesn't bump them all the time.
My thought is that if there is a better tray available, I might just swap mine on my boat so I will quit stepping on the danged buttons too.
Any thoughts here, or does anyone know the differences in the different trays and which might be better for my issue?
