Ultrex Heading Sensor Placement in Rear of Boat

Local TM shop says they mount the heading sensor in the back of the boat to make it easier to connect to batteries and keep out of the way of all the activity that typically occurs on the front of the boat. Almost all of the videos I’ve seen have it being mounted up front. So, has anyone mounted it in the rear of the boat? Any performance issues?

As long as it is mounted in a place with no magnetic interference and it can also connect to the trolling motor reliably via Bluetooth, then it shouldn't mater where it is mounted.

While they don't draw a lot of current, would recommend connecting through switched power rather than direct to battery to avoid any battery drain during off-water or storage.

Mine is located on the stern of my boat and it has no problem communicating with my Ulterra. However it does draw continuous power so it needs a switch so you can turn it off.

The heading sensor cuts itself off after the trolling motor is turned off for a period of time. No need for a disconnect switch. I've mounted them in both locations. As long as it isn't in an area where magnetic fields effect it, you're OK.
