Have two DS combos, one a 7', 1 power, with 15 lb braid to 8 lb FC leader. The other is 7', 2 power, with 20 lb braid to 10 lb FC leader. I use the lighter combo in mostly open water with nose-hooked circle hooks, and the heavier combo with Texas style hooked plastics, currently used with a finesse jig on the bottom, but this year will be trying a Shakyhead/Zoom Lizard combination on the bottom.

I will really mess with you guys....I use a carbon light baitcaster to drop shot with 15lbs braid to a 6-8lbs leader. I hate spinning rods!

I prefer straight up 6 or 8lb flouro for drop shot applications...or anything really hardcore finesse.

I also drop shot with casting reels and have always run straight floro but was planning to try braid to a leader this season if your using a leader how big a deal is it weather your using 10, 20 or 30 braid ?

Casting distance and water resistance is all I can think of. You can sling 10 lb braid with a 3/16 or 1/8 jig head or a 1/4 weight farther easier than with 30 lb. The 4lb equivalent diameter of the 10lb gives you better feel.

Either way, it's definitely noticeable in my mind.
I'm pretty sure you're right about it being in your mind. If you can feel a .003 difference in line size you need to be a surgeon not a fisherman.

The smaller diameter makes a noticeable difference in casting ease and distance. I use 10lb braid on 2 of my spinning setups and 8lb braid on the other.

A 15lb power pro slick main line is pretty much all I use for tubes and dsr. Heavier the wind grabs it more and doesn't flow off the spool as well. Lighter you get more wind knots and the line seems to break down faster. Leader I use a 7 to 12lb floro leader depending on the situation at hand and that leader ranges in length from 4ft to 12ft.

Can you not feel the difference between 2 lb test and 6 lb test?

Pretty sure he meant feel the difference in the diameter of 2 vs 6 on braid which has long been a standard of being based on the diameter of mono in said lb test... Also
