    Looking for sonar suggestions

Looking to get into a new sonar unit.
As you can see from my user name I fish a lot of deep water
I want to have a good idea of whats down there.
    Price range probably 1500.
But also really wanting to go with a ultrex soon so maybe hummingbird heavy
I can live with smaller screen but I want good down imaging
I want a good idea of what's down there
    As in structure and fish

Thanks in advance for any help!

Good luck to you. There are so many awesome choices now. From 4-5 companies. It's hard to go wrong. I'm glad I don't have to choose.

If you’re wanting an ultrex with I pilot link, helix 10si or di would be about it. You could probably swing mega DI for your price as well.

To use iPilot LINK you need a unit that is Ethernet capable. That starts with the G2N Helix 7 models and includes the first generation and G2N versions of Helix 9, Helix 10, and Helix 12.

A DI version of any of those and the MEGA SI models would have true Down Imaging using a dedicated Down Imaging crystal in the transducer.

Your Helix 5 SI does not have true Down Imaging, just a Down Imaging view created by blending the two SI pulses.

For what you want, 2D sonar should be your concern, not Imaging. The new Dual Spectrum DI transducer with a Helix 9 CHIRP MEGA DI GPS G2N would be the lowest cost with the most performance.

Does anyone know if you still have to upgrade the transducer in order to get the HD?

If your willing to forgo the compatibility with the ultrex, take a good look at Garmin. A 93 SV plus, with transducer, for $1000. Maybe bundle with a panoptix transducer also?
If you need a better map card, than what comes pre-loaded, you only buy one for the lower 48.
