    Locking and deleting threads

Can we please stop locking and deleting threads? It seems there has been a trend lately of getting rid of threads that mention anything slightly negative about Ranger owners' experiences. What happened to the thread about the leaking 521L? There was another thread that was locked that was started by a gentleman who had several issues with his new boat.

Don't get me wrong, I am not looking to bash Ranger. I've owned several and they've all been great boats, and I still believe it's a great company with awesome employees. But this board is not owned by Ranger or Johnny Morris. It's here for Ranger owners to share their experiences, both good and bad, so we all can learn from them. When a thread is simply locked or deleted, there's never a resolution to the issue.

I also know that sometimes trolls come along and try to stir the pot on some of these threads, but that's no reason to delete or lock the entire thread. Just remove the inappropriate comments.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I have a feeling there are others on this board who would agree with me.

In general I share your sentiment. I've noticed the main reason for thread locking has less to do with negative criticism and more to do with trolling. The moderators do a good job of shutting down threads that start to turn into bashing, or that draw trolls who incite reactions. Constructive criticism is allowed.

Noted. But sharing and ranting are separate concepts. Folks with problems on their Ranger boats are welcome to post those problems here, even vent about those problems if they must, but when threads turn into a bash-fest, or insults start flying, sometimes the most effective way to defuse is to just stop talking about that particular topic. 99% of the time, if a thread gets closed, either the language was starting to get elevated, or the thread was a repeat of a previously closed one. I’m shaking my head here, because the way some of these threads and posts go, it sounds more like the poster is trying to talk directly to Ranger—who probably never sees this stuff—and yet is using an approach that would only alienate if read. If on the other hand the poster wants help from other forum members, or wants to help other members via his experience, that’s great—no problem at all. Roger and I just try to keep it positive around here; some days that’s harder than others.

I think for the most part the moderators do a great job. To me it seems like the moderator closes things down a bit early or for "not so good" reasons, such as, "feelings are starting to get hurt", "this topic has already been discussed", "not giving any info on this thread", etc. Six closed threads since January. I was really following one about Evinrude's future with Ranger, but not so much now. Oh well...

I agree the second something negative is said about Ranger or the purchasing dealer the thread gets locked. I had a negative dealer experience and all I did was state the facts...result thread locked due to “he said she said.” Somebody posts about Ranger quality declining...thread locked. Shouldn’t we all get to hear each other’s experiences and resolutions or is the ultimate goal to protect Ranger and the dealers reputation by hurry up and closing threads that are not all rainbows and butterflies.

I wasn't trying to trash on the moderators either. They do a great job, and I appreciate what they do for this board. I was just offering some constructive criticism.

I love this board, and I've learned a ton from the good people on here. I'm never negative and, for the most part, try to comment only when I have something worthwhile to offer. I just thought I would raise the issue because of the rash of disappearing threads lately.

All I'm saying is, let's not be so quick to dismiss someone who has paid 70K-80K for a new boat and has issues with it. I'd be mad too. We all know that in any manufacturing process sometimes things slip through the crack, but if it becomes a pattern, then the owners deserve to hear about it, as do the dealers and Ranger executives. That's how things get better.

And yes, I can assure you that Ranger personnel do look at this board.

I agree totally. Weather it be negative or positive people need to know how certain dealers and boat company's are treating there customers especially when 60k plus rigs are being purchased. I had a thread closed on my new z519 with several problems and ranger not in any big hurry to fix them but since have came through. I would love to go back on my thread and let everyone know what ranger did to fix my issues on my new rig but I can't and I'm not starting another thread that just shows where ranger fixed it but missed the past 5 months where the dealer or ranger wasn't wanting to fix my rig. Mods do a great job on BBC in general but the facts are the facts and they need to be known to others. But there again that's my opinion I am not a mod nor do I want to even take on trying to be one so I live by the rules

I'll get my opinion in on the matter of the fellow that picked his new boat up and had "QC" issues. Was he there when it was unloaded off the trailer or did he give his dealer time to go over it? Too often I hear of guys at the dealership waiting for the boat to get unloaded then hooking up and driving off. Let the boat get there and alow the dealer to go over it before you do then you might not be on here complaining about minor issues that the dealer can resolve before delivery.

Good post that is/was basically pointed at John or myself ? Correct ??. I have moderated this forum for a long time and will continue to do so with the best of ability and judgement. You betcha that I am " Pro" Ranger and will always be. Here's what happens 99 times out of a 100.................here comes a QC or negative post on the board and before you know it gets hijacked by others and even other brand owners that gladly hop in the conversation to turn into a beat down. That isn't needed and will not be permitted. Screamin, you have a sincere desire for information to not be sifted through by John or myself, but you won't even list your name in your profile??.....................We all would love to get to know you better here on the Ranger board. Please don't get me wrong, but you will type out a long and evidently thought out post and you can't fill out your name in your profile while pointing out that John and I should do better. This board belongs to all of us and will continue to with information of the product available, but a thread that goes astray will get attention from John or myself......................................RR

    Well Said, Screamin Reel

I have also been watching these types of threads closely and disappointed to see them closed, since my brand new $70,000+ Ranger has been at the Ranger factory waiting in line for QC repairs for going on 5 months now...............FACT!

Why are you attacking me now, Roger? Did you even read my second post where I said this?

"I wasn't trying to trash on the moderators either. They do a great job, and I appreciate what they do for this board. I was just offering some constructive criticism."

Okay so I don't have my name listed in my profile for the world to see, but I if you must know it's Jason Stewart...I met you at the rally on Bull Shoals last year. I'm not trying to hide anything.
You seem like a great guy and I know you've helped a lot of Ranger owners in the past, which is awesome. But why does knowing my name have anything to do with what I said? I didn't use foul language or attack another board member, I was simply raising an issue of concern.

It's this kind of attitude that angers people on here...accusing them of turning posts into bash-fests or whining when that's not the case at all. I'm on here almost everyday and I can't remember a "bash-fest" on Ranger. If you read my original post, you know I still think Ranger is a great company, and I certainly wasn't trying to bash them. But it seems threads are locked just because something negative is said about Ranger or a dealer. That's not right. People deserve to be able to raise their concerns about poor quality or service. Sure there are trolls that come along from time to time and make a snide remark, but WHO cares? We all know what they're up to.

Anyway, since I was attacked for even speaking out, Roger, I guess you can go ahead and lock or delete this thread because it obviously didn't do any good...

This is not directed at the leaker dude or anyone in particular, but the issue with the "my 80k ranger has (insert problem here) threads always seem to devolve into a bash fest.. especially when the lurker trolls see an opportunity to use the "JM is gonna f up Ranger", or post a one liner "Ranger quality has gone to shit"...

The honest truth is these boats (and all brands) had flaws when they were 25K and when they were 45k, as long as human hands are involved in the process, perfection is going to be a lofty goal. Its like some of you guys are new to the BOAT (Break Out Another Thousand) concept. There's always going to be something to fix, new boat or old, unless your boat is a trailer queen.

What is getting on the internet and ranting about your issue going to do to solve your problem? Nothing! Getting with your dealer is going to solve your issue, and if that doesnt, then time to get Ranger involved.

I understand the need to vent, (I've done it too), and to share info that might keep a brother from having the same issue or that helps with a similar issue, but civility and tact go a long way in helping your cause.

The Ranger board has always been pretty civilized, I feel like like I could meet anyone of you guys at the ramp and go have a great time on the lake. The mods have a responsibility to keep the board that way. I am not a proponent of censorship or restriction of free speech, but the anonymity of the web sometimes leads to ridiculous comments, and threads that most likely have little to no truth in them, or they only tell 50 percent of the story. The mods have a duty to weed that stuff out...I think they do a pretty good job

I’m not sure as the moderators put up with me....that said I think locking a thread until original owner comes back with a proper response is a good idea....I think the moderators do a good job herding cats....As for a loose screw... um...I just bought a house for About 15 times the price of a new Ranger and it has a lot more issues than a loose screw
