Sealing Foam for Recessed Trollin Tray

I will be adding a recessed trolling motor tray. What's the best way to seal the foam?
    Thanks!

never tried it but don't see any reason why Gorilla Glue wouldn't work.

Well, now you have me thinking. Put a tray in this fall and did not consider sealing the foam. Not sure it will get wet but wouldn't take much effort.

I would get some " great stuff" that is the window door formula, and spray a layer in top of the other foam as you screw the recess in. This will be closed at the top and bottom good to go

    What about spraying some
Flexseal on top of the foam?

I used fiberglass resin that I bought at Walmart and a throw away pain brush to seal both of mine.

How long did it take to cure?
Did the smell ever go away?

Mixed properly about 20 minutes. Smell went away in a short time, made my boat smell like a new one again for a while though.

Very well done!! I read that earlier. I still have a few more questions.
How did you end up sealing inside the compartment? Not sure one of my kids would be willing to get inside.
The slight flex concerts me. If the bottom of the tray sat flush againsg the wall of the compartment think there would be any flex?
The fiberglass resin, just the bondo type my Wal-Mart stocks?

Correct on the resin, it is the Bondo brand.

I think you are talking about the horizontal cut at the forward end of the compartment wall, correct? I don’t know if it would have made a difference or not. I didn’t make it tight on purpose........the walls of that white gel compartment aren’t that thick, I didn’t want to take the chance of causing and stress cracks by having the tray sit tight on it. I don’t know if it would have made any difference or not.

I actually talked my wife into sealing it up for me. I’ll tell you what, she wasn’t very happy about it at all and it cost me!

There are different types of resins, some that cure when open to air (i think they have wax that cuts off the air from touching it) and another type that only completely cures when the next layer is set up, one could use Saran Wrap to get the wrong type or resin to completely cure.
