I would be concerned about the front end having a tendency to want to nose down under power from even a small outboard. Weight distribution could be sensitive.

True... But we had that problem with the boat we use now rated for 450lbs... This is rated at 1,500lbs... Much less sensitive I bet.

What we are used to dragging is about the same weight... and we can cart it if need be.

If your planning for next year. Come look at my boat when I have it in the water. 2 Slim Fellas like me and you can stand on the side and it doesn't tip. Mine has a wood floor which adds some weight. But I think it would work great down there. I will have it in the day the ice goes out.

Well, We have been doing this for 30+ years. I'm more concerned in safety. We are getting older and should be smarter. I know exactly what parameters are needed. I'm just trying to figure out the best solution. Looking for more ideas before I order it up. Some advice here just wont work for our needs. They might for others.

Still open for some other thoughts that could work for us.... There are 3-4 guys that use this boat and the cost will be split up. Only 2 guys go at a time making the weight a big factor.

If you're going to do it, and you're asking than my vote is for the "Pond Toon" basscatlildave mentioned above. ( http://boatsandfishing.com/listings/standard-model/ ) At least it looks like a boat.... kind of...

Nice wide deck. Is it padded? Is the padding worth it??

Hang in there 21XDC. Winters almost over and the ice will break. You'll look back on all this talk of ice and wonder to your self... "What the hell was I thinking!"

Nope...I'm getting this going now. The lake I'm fishing is a winter bonanza and need this. I will be putting it to use for many years to come.

Steve is there today fishing with Brad.... Steve and I are going all day tomorrow.

How about a good old Coleman Crawdad. You can find them used. They about 12' long, stable (Even when standing) and not to heavy. I used one for years in lakes and rocky rivers. They're tough too and will take a 5 Hp in the back and a trolling motor up front.

I'd throw mine in the back of my pick up or on top of my old station wagon by myself. Fished them up state here and down on Long Island. I even took one to Florida with me once. (Though the gators made me a bit nervous!)

Even a 14' Tin boat should be easy to move around and either boat can be modded to make them pretty nice. decking, carpet, rod holders etc.
