    Are you guys never adjusting the height of the trolling motor? How can you slide the shaft up or down with all those clamps on it?

    But if you use your method with tape you can? Is the slot big enough to hold and hdi cable?

    The steering box won't pass over tape either. Just secure it very well at both ends. It is possible to place a few dabs of marine grade adhesive in the slot to help keep cable inside,--.if placed in the right spot as to not interfere with sliding..
    Not sure of the diameter of HDI cable but my h-bird helix 10 with SI fits fine.

    mine is all the way down and will never move. I don't fish shallow water

    I just leave space before the top cable tie and can slide mine up and down no problem.
