    Fishing lake Erie

    i have been hunting to see what i need boat equipment wise to fish lake Erie? i assume i need a flare or beacon, do i need away special anchor

    I don't think you are required by law to have a special anchor. But, Ohio law requires you to have some kind of anchor with sufficient rope.

    I believe the only thing extra that you need at Erie, that you don't need at any inland lakes is a flare.

    The last time I was checked I was told I needed a flare before I could launch. They did not mention a strobe.

    I am going to try and dig into the strobe i can see in the long run since a flare has a shelve life, wounder what is considered reasonable anchor rope length

    Coast guard will give you flack if you don't have at least 100 ft of anchor rope. I've had Div. of Watercraft guys suggest 100 ft also but I usually only carry 50.

    Always have had everything except an anchor...... I refuse to carry an anchor in my bassboats! Lol
    Unless i plan on crappie fishing.

    It doesn't state how big an anchor????? Maybe I'll put my 3lb kayak anchor in my boat, with line attached, to be " legal"... Lol

    Sounds like a plan, unless you are talking to the Coast Guard up on Erie. With their training station right there at Marblehead, they have entirely forgotten to have a sense of humor. Similar to arguing a point with the IRS.
