I had been meaning to stop at an old tackle shop in my area. He's got some 10/20 year old Bagley's still in the packages. I remember back when I started fishing, I guess 35 years ago, some of the really good sticks in the area used Bagley's to win a lot of tourneys. Back then Bagley's was about the only balsa baits around.

I would definitely say WEC. Especially the mutt. Just a killer little bait.

Gulp the ones that we made in SC are the best, you might have to go through 5 or 6 until you get one that runs correctly but when you do watch out

I just started throwing his stuff last year.
The quality is awesome. I have caught some nice fish but to be honest ,
I spent all year fishing deep so I haven't really got to give them any time in the water.
Just in the short time I've used them I was impressed enough to buy quite a few of his baits.
JerryT has posted some pics of some nice fish he's caught on them. Send him a pm.

You brought up a lot of good names in the balsa business. But what about Thunder shads? They made balsa for years and kinda flew under the radar.

Gentlemen, NO PLASTIC bait compares to Balsa. The term is "HUNT" two members mentioned this term. Until you've seen one HUNT, you can't appreciate it. The new Bagleys are trash. The best Bagleys made were the Killer'B 2 and KB3 in diving. Nothing would come thru a tree like they would. The great ones had a lead weight on the line tie. A shad rap can still wear them out. For a production bait the DT series is the best on the market in MHO. Here is another quality Balsa bait no one has mentioned. http://tn-tuffy.com/ A plaSTIC LURE REACTS The same every time IT HITS SOMETHING, IT ALSO TRACKS STRAIGHT BACK TO THE BOAT. a BAIT THAT HUNTS REACTS DIFFERENTLY EVERY IT STRIKES SOMETHING. A balsa bait that hunts wanders left then right during a retrieve rather than straight back. It's these erratic actions that trigger strikes. Forgive me, but I learned throwing B's around cypress knees. oh how I wish I had the Bagleys stolen from my boat. Bagleys killer B's were the most perfect lure made at one time. That's why I've seen them go for $75 ea on Ebay!

One more opinion. I hate circuit board diving lips. Hard or gravel bottoms eat them up fast!

I've got a couple Gandy squarebills that work pretty good. They're made out of Basswood instead of Balsa so supposedly they're a little tougher. I don't go banging $20 lures off the rocks so mine still look new. They cast better than balsa too.

I ordered some of the Wesley Strader baits which are made by ph customs. There solid baits but I order them in spring craw and each one is painted different in color. Not happy. Only one is actually spring craw. I know these are hand made but the painting process I expect better.

I left them a message will see what happens
