Best boat for small carry on lakes.... Light and stable.

Right now we use an 8ft Bass Baby plastic boat. It's great for small ponds. I think the weight limit is 450lbs.. I'm 200 and friend is 300lbs. troller, batt, 2.3hp Honda 4stroke, 30+lbs of winter gear and tackle, etc... It's very much over loaded. We have tipped it over in cold water. We have to carry this boat across ice pretty far sometimes to get to open water as this is our winter boat............................

If the fish are stacked up at the discharge- fish from shore ?? Sounds illegal to me > Fishing in a power plant lake without a launch in a boat ? Fishing in a power plant lake in the winter when fish are stacked at the discharge ?? Homeland should shoot you before you get half way to the power plant dragging a boat filled with Stuff.

We are watched and patrolled. Far away is some private land that we are friends with. In the warm water area, We can not touch land.

He is 6ft 4in and wears it well... He could loose some though. He is a martial arts guy and you would never know it.

For decades the good old canoe has been the answer for rough partages, backwaters etc. I think I would go with a flat stern canoe and a set of wheels, There are nice seats with backrests you can use and they can handle a good amount of weight. For extra stability I would consider adding a side pontoon if you felt you needed it.

As Kayakers, We want more room and stability than a canoe offers, Even with side floats.

here is a model i have its 10 ft which is 165 pds and with a 5 hr 4 stroke it is way to heavy to put in and out of the back of the truck
i also have the 8 ft and the add says 90 pounds but i dont think mind is that heavy i got a merc 3.3 2 stroke and it is super light for putting in the truck it is superr easy to pull this to it from the truck to the water. if you have and academy they should have these in stack for you to see in person

here is a link to uncle lees in ky. he has a different brand of boat with wheels, i looked in the gallery and he doesnt show it you may want to call him and get the brand. i am thinks of selling my 10 pelican and getting this one with wheels. the top cap it is laid out like the bass hopper, and it is not as heavy and the bass hopper and i dont have to pay shippping.

I have a Polar Craft 1468 Aluminum that I use for Ice Out fishing. I also use it for floating my boat hoists. Slides fairly easily across the ice. Got a 9.5 Johnson on it. I put a floor in it for pedestal seats. I have a 72lb thrust Minn Kota. Might be a little heavy for what you do. I can stand on the side rail and it hardly moves.

I did put Ranger Stickers on it to make it Classier.

You might want to look into a Coleman Crawdad. They’re not making them anymore so you’d have to buy used. They’ll handle up to a 6hp motor. While the capacity is rated at around 450 lbs, they easily handle much more. There are plastic seats which I removed, installed a board and mounted a 7 inch pedestal with bass seat on that. I would say that,s the max you’d want as far as a pedestal in that boat and with your buddy at 300lbs, I’m not even sure pedestals would be a good idea. Boat weighs around 130lbs total. Sound like your buddy needs to shed 100lbs

Mike....I saw a picture of a 12-14 foot aluminum that had been rigged as a bass boat (front/back decks, pedestals, etc. etc.) it also had like they can get for kayaks....like a attachable 2 wheel roller system (like a trailer but for only the back of the boat) for moving it around.

I bought a 14ft aluminum that we put in the back of my truck, use a 30lb tm. I can load it myself.

I used to own an old version of this exact boat. I fished trolling motor tournaments out of it for 3 years. I stood on the back seat all day and operated a foot powered trolling motor backwards.

Thanks... But we use pedestal seats and fish like we are in a bassboat... Not interested in sitting that low. We already have stable sit on top kayak's... Not liking that here in the winter temps.

Actually I want a light gauge, Wide aluminum boat that after pedestal seats are added is still stable. I have been in some flat bottoms that were very tippy w/o raised seats. I was hoping for some brand suggestions to look for.

Still looking for something that is safer that what we have now.
