Mine is mounted to the underside of the rear battery compartment's composite lid on a 2009 z520.

another question I thought point 1 needed clear line of site to the satellite? does mounting under the rear compartment door effect the line of site? thanks,

Line of sight not required. Mine works perfectly under the rear deck and is only offset from my SS transducer by about a foot so very accurate of marking the actual spots.

In fact it works great while in my garage with the rear deck lid closed!

Mine works fine under the rear lid, never had any issues. Like mentioned above it is the closest location I could get to the transducer mounted under the step.

Fiberglass does not block GPS sat signal much at all. However Aluminum (or anything metal for that matter) will block the GPS signals.

When mounting the point-1 primary focus should be to avoid Magnetic interference, not getting as close to the transducer as possible.
Anything magnetic near by will cause issues with the heading sensor in the point-1. Check and double check for magnetic interference and the temporarily mount the P-1 before drilling any holes, and take for a test run.

You can use the compass APP on an iPhone or find a cheap mechanical compass. Put the compass in the spot you have in mind for mounting, run the engine or the motor and see if the needle goes crazy. If it does, try a different spot cuzz you're getting some interference.
