Question:
What is the difference between Mercury Product Protection Platinum and Gold?
Answer:
Mercury Product Protection Platinum covers mechanical and electrical failures that are the result of a defect in material or workmanship. Mercury Product Protection Gold covers mechanical failures that are the result of a defect in material or workmanship.
Sounds like the Platinum covers electrical as well as mechanical.

First, neither are warranties they are product protection plans. Second, the Gold is only 2yrs and covers less than Platinum which can be purchased for up to 5yrs beyond original OEM 3yr warranty.
Here's the Mercury page which compares the two product protection plans, scroll down below the Q&A to see the comparisons and you can also open the .pdf that shows compares OEM warranty to Platinum to Gold.

Number of years depends on the term length PURCHASED or Contracted. Available on new engines for up to 5 additional years (EITHER Gold or Platinum).
I do NOT sell "Gold". Platinum ONLY.
GOLD: Major Mechanical Assembly Coverage only.
Platinum: Expands into electrical, some housings, and much of the fuel system.

Thanks for clarifying Gold protection length Don, I looked all over Mercury site and couldn't find where Gold could be extended to 5yrs.
