    Shed hunters

Yesterday I was driving out north of town headed to a section of State Park land to hunt for sheds. A doe busted out of the roadside woods at a dead run, and right behind her was a true shooter. Maybe a Booner. I got stopped in time to watch him run her across a large open field. When they hit the far wood line his rack was still intact. Before I pulled away FOUR more deer ran across the road after that poor doe. They were either four more scrub bucks or three scrub bucks and a lesbian doe. But the point is, I may be rushing my shed hunting this year.

What are you guys seeing in your areas? I should add, I'm in NE Missouri.

Found one small one here in Texas, all the bucks I've seen in the past week still have their antlers. Right now I have an 8pt 150 yards in front of my house, still has his.

There have been a couple killed late season in Alabama that were missing head gear...I haven't checked my Tennessee cameras... I'm getting ready to put my traps out this year...

Ours seem to drop late. Too many does leads to late antler shed.

In northern Kentucky. Saw a fork in the back yard the other day with one gone. I've got a Lab that would be a great shed dog, but I can't keep him interested. Bad trainer.

I too have a lab. His sole purpose is to hunt antlers, the first toy he ever had was a lil shed. It takes a lot of work to get them into it. At night in the dark we played fetch with antlers, that got him hunting them. It is a great joy to watch him hunt them.

Id say 5 1/2 and Roddy is right they won’t drop till all the does are bred unless they have a injury. March is a good time, but the latest I’ve saw was April 19. Opening day of turkey several years ago.

Guys be careful with your dogs looking for sheds, I was out Thursday with mine looking at some wheat and decided to send my dog who is trained for sheds into a thicket and he got whacked by a cottonmouth. He has been at the vets since as he got bad in a hurry. I feel even worse as I sent him there. He has turned the curve and is getting better but scared the crap out of me.
