Question 2017 Cougar FTD Registration Letter Placement

I have looked at several Cougars on the BC Owner's Gallery and have noticed most place their registration letters a bit behind and above the end of the lightning bolt. I had in mind placing them further forward towards the hull tip. However, I didn't find any of the pictures disturbing to look at. I even thought of placing them on the top cap just below trolling motor. I suppose I'm leaning toward placing mine like the other Cougars I saw in the gallery. Does anyone have any opinions? Or do you agree with the placement of above and behind bolt tip?
    Thank you as always.

Main thing is to check your state regs. Some have some specific requirements. As to distance from bow, or with the steeply sloped sides at the bow some minimum angle so that they are readable from the side, etc... Also don't forget to check the requirements for the letters. States vary in how tall, allowable colors, type of font, etc... Often a PITA to say the least. Bass boats (and a few skinny racing boats as well) have thrown a bit of a monkey wrench into things. I once watched a guy catch grief up at Guntersville because the registration numbers were impossible to read. He cited his state law that required them to be within 6' of the bow. Where they could only be read if you were under the boat almost...

In alabama, for example, 3" block letters are required. No italics, script, etc. Color must "contrast sharply with color of hull". Our only requirement is "placed on the bow" which is technically pretty vague since the bow is generally the front part of the bow, which presumably could be anywhere between the very front surface and a point midway between there and the transom.

Indiana requires 3 inch tall letters and excise sticker must be within 3 inches of last number. Other than that I don't see any other specifics. Since my post I did see a cougar with all stickers on top cap directly below trolling motor. I'm leaning towards that now unless I get talked out of it

Here are mine, if it helps with placement...

I got them from “Sign Specialist” online. They match the boat’s lightning bolt.

Code in all regulated states we know of is 3" tall, 1/2" wide letters, with 1/2" between letters. Then state logo, state ID, numbers and county/parish location are to be separated by 3" each. They are to be placed in the forward 1\3 of the hull, or visual from the side, to be legal and contrasting colors for easy vision. Several states tightly adhere to these requirements.

Here is a picture of my former Cat, 2009 CougarFTD. You can see where I placed the registration. That's about the same place I've placed it on all of the Cats I've had.

Thanks Bill. I ended up putting them up front on top cap. State rag wrapped over top a little but satisfied.
