    Baystar v. Seastar hydraulic steering

So, it seems NFB cables are not what people do these days. I have a 2001 Triton TR186 with a Mercury 2001 150hp XR6... I'm leaning towards baystar for cost reasons. It does seem it will work on my motor. I would love to hear what is best for my rig. I have heard baystar is not best for bass boats. Please help.

I would go seastar, or even better uflex. You really don't want any slop in a bass boat.

If you run a V6, Seastar/Uflex will be the better choice.

If I decide to change a Triton 1756SC Riverboat from cable to another system what would you guys recommend? It has a Mercury 50hp motor on it.

I installed the Baystar system on 2000 186 two years ago. Works fine, just a little stiff at full trim. Made sense to me money wise and rated for up to and including the 150 HP.

If I remember correctly bay star is only rated for 45 or 50 mph, I went with seastar on my 150 optimax

I think i'm going to use dual NFB cables, can't afford seastar plus i never run it wide open. Now trying to determine if i can use 13', 14' or 15' cable length
. No worries Flyby, hope you get your answer. Good luck.

If it has cables on it now check the cables for the numbers on the outside cover. Most have the length written on them.

What i meant when i said stiff is it's just like running dual cables when trimmed out at full throttle it has the steering torque like the cables has the steering feels tight. I don't run at full throttle much anymore and the Baystar is working just fine. Don't hear me wrong the Seastar is the best and if you have the money buy it.

bdmilam84 I would install this system again without thinking twice it works fine on our size of boat and motor.

I also have a 189 TRX and the Baystar is standard. I’ve always had Seastar on my other boats, so I can compare the difference. In short, I don’t see any difference. They are rated for 150 HP and my boat doesn’t go over 55, so it’s just fine. I believe the Seastar is “beefier” and better able to handle the torque/ speed of faster boats.

    A 186 with a 150 will do 60+ setup right.

It handles great no issues with it at wide open throttle.

I have a 2017 189TrX... go with the Seastar if your budget allows it. It works very well.
