    1997 201 Pro Elite

Looking at maybe pulling the trigger on a 97 201, major question, does this boat have any wood in the hull?

I am thinking I have read before where stratos stopped using wood in 2000.Someone will chime in shortly that really knows. If the boat has been garaged or a good cover over it I would say it would be fine.Just take some time and check it out.I don't know why wood scares so many people in boats,on the other hand if its not been taken care of and set out in all kinds of weather I guess it would scare me too because of rot. That boat is a very good performimg boat that is fun to drive.Good luck to you

Composite hull, wood transom and stringers. Good solid ride. Great rough water.

I have a 86 Ranger now and the transom got wet before and I dried it out and sealed all that I could find to seal. Are these boats built better than the older boats with wood in them?

Pro elites were the first 100% composite boats that Stratos made

I'm going to look at the boat in the morning tomorrow. I've received a few pictures of the boat and noticed it has a decal on both sides that say hand laid hull, does that mean it's all composite? I'm not terribly worried if there is wood, would just feel a bit more comfortable if it was all composite. Just trying to figure out as much info before making an offer on the boat.

Take some pics of the boat when you go and post them up for us to see!

I just bought a 99 201 Pro Elite and was kind of in the same predicament. I wanted to learn as much as I could. The best way that I found was to search BBC via Google rather than using the search function here on the site.

Copy and past this into a Google search:

    201 pro elite site:www.bbcboards.net

That should bring you up a long list of threads from many years that might have answers to many of the questions you have.

I've had two 97 201 PE's. My 1st was in a wreck so I've seen the inside construction and confirm the hull is composite and the stringers are wood and more than likely the transom is also. There maybe some 97's that have more composite.
