    Tempest on a P2

I am in the process of trying to buy a 2016 Pantera 2.
It has a 25 Tempest on it. I have never ran a Tempest, and majority of P2's run a Fury or Trophy.
anyone have experience with the Tempest on a P2??

I plan on getting a Fury4 for it. Just wondering how the Tempest would work?
Haven't had a chance to drive it. I am currently at work in Nigeria. My wife is handling this one for me...again! Lol!

Are you looking for the Nigierian Prince that was supposed to pay you large sums of money? JK of course. Stay safe!

i ran a TON of props on my 2010 PII including a Tempest. The 25P Fury4 and 26P Bravo FS were the best running props for holeshot and acceleration. They were not the fastest but fast enough for me. The fastest was a 26P B&B Tempest BUT, it had to be run pretty high and had a lot of steering torque. It also did not carry a load very well. The next fastest was the 26P Fury3. Holeshot and load carrying were good too.

    Hope this helps.

It should run good on the P2. P2 runs good with a lot of props.

The tempest was real picky on setup for me. Midrange not good when setup to take advantage of the tempest. 25 fury is my best all around, 25 trophy also ran well, just a little slower and better in rough stuff. Never ran the fury 4. I am very happy with the fury 25. It runs good and is very durable. I'm done with b&b props, mine just don't hold up. I have 2 power poles and carry a lot of gear. By myself I can run north of 74 some days. I can run 72 any day,all day, any load. I'd love to see real numbers on the fury 4, keep us posted.

Thanks for the input. I believe I will order a 4 Fury 25 pitch. I like the lift and acceleration a 4 blade gives. I am more about acceleration, Hole shot, and handling than top speed.
Tempest sound like it will be just a back up prop.

On mine a 26 tempest runs the best. I don't carry a ton of stuff as I pretty much know how I'm going to fish whatever lake I'm going to and only bring what I know I will use. But a fury on mine just wouldn't go after 65 mph. My tempest will push mine loaded with fuel, live wells and a partner right at 70. Couldn't get that from my fury, and my fury wouldn't lift the boat.

I had a 2015 P2 with 200 ProXS. Would run 72 lightly loaded with a 25p Fury 3-blade at 5800-5850rpm. Fully loaded down about 1-1.5mph. Best ever with 1 small driver...74mph. I put a 26p Fury 3-blade on and lost approx. 200 rpm. Peak HP for the 200 is right at rev-limiter. Felt a bit more sluggish in summer with 26p. If you run light you might like the 26p 3-blade...but it was a rocket out of the hole and up to the rev-limiter with the 25p. btw...never felt it 'hit' a hard limiter....but it was better when spinning up around 5800-5850 vs 5600-5700.

WAs this with the 3 blade Fury?
I always found the Fury 3 to have the best top end, but no bow lift. It would want to run with the bow low.
It would load the boat on the trailer the best!

I figure with tackle and Power poles I should see upper 60's by myself with the 25 Fury 4.
I don't carry a ton of tackle. About 15 poles, but maybe 10-12 Plano 3701 series boxes.

My current boat 2011 Sabre FTD Merc 175 ProXs, flies out the hole and has great acceleration and handling with the 25 Trophy Plus with all the above mentioned gear, minus power poles.
I am hoping the P2 performs the same.

Yes with a 3 blade fury. I moved the plate every which way and it just won't run. But my 26 isn't worked, stock out of the box and it runs the best. I plan on having it worked here shortly and it should run a lot better after that. My fury is my back up

I've run a 26 Fury, 25 Tempest and a 25 Hi5 on my 07 P2, I also picked up a 25 Trophy that I haven't run yet. Fury came on the boat and was the fastest (73) but I wanted a better hole shot. I couldn't find a 25 Fury for what I wanted to pay so I borrowed a buddies 25 Tempest and gave it a spin (68.5 with a decent holeshot on a good day to run in the fall) decided against it. Right now honestly most of the time I run the Hi5, I still get 65 with a light load and it gets up and out pretty much immediately. Handling on it is awesome too, both at low speeds and in bigger water.

Tempest will be a good prop, for most guys I'd bet a 25 Fury (even though I've never run one) would be the best.

For me, the Fury 25p 3-blade had so much bow lift we could virtually make the boat float in a cushion of air ! It would get 'waayyy' too high if we trimmed it up. Holeshot was arm ripping strong. Could literally make the boat 'hop' out of the water and dance on it's tail (much like a jet-ski). My new 2018 Eyra is MUCH slower out of the hole than the P2 !!! but it's also 10mph faster on the big end (running 250 ProXS with 26p Fury 3-blade). Will try to add pic. Here is the P2: w/1 person, 145lbs..fully loaded....1/2 tank of fuel...25p Fury 3-blade...Merc 200 ProXS. Note: DO NOT run any vent plugs in the Fury !

My 2015 P2 came from the factory with a 25 Tempest Plus, JP just above flush. Crazy holeshot, excellent acceleration, 70-71 with me alone. Adding partner has almost no effect on holeshot (as did adding single Talon either). Loads on trailer easily. I don't chase performance any more. Have not tried the Fury, which is what I had on my previous two Cats with 250's.

FastCat I would say your getting excellent bow lift out of that Fury!!!
I guess I should have been specific. I find the 4 blade gives better bow lift at slower speeds. (On my Sabre it does)
On a positive note, its pretty easy to find used 3 Fury 25 at a good price.
We have 4ea Pantera 2's in our Bass clubs. All run the 3 Fury 25 or 26 pitch props. They are all rockets out the hole and most of the field are trying to catch up.

Thanks Cajunhunter67 ! I actually sold that P2 to a guy in La. He said P2's were the boat to have down there for the maneuverability and the holeshot. His name is Glenn Tulliers. Most of his bass club had P2's as well. Great boat !!!!

True statement. The P2 is perfect for the smaller lakes and winding bayous we have here. The Eyra is the next popular.
Looking forward to getting this boat. Hopefully in the next few days my wife will close on the sale.

We prefer the 24 Fury in 3 blade for most applications.

Cajunhunter, For what its worth, my P2 does not run its best when aired out like shown above. It does not have the bow lift my Sabre had and prefers to run flatter. Biggest difference is the P2 seems to run higher in the water as in the whole boat seems to be lifted higher vs the bow lift in the Sabre. My best speeds are attained with minimum trim. Could be the way I'm loaded or the setup but the numbers are very good. Set up like I am it drives well at WOT. It can be set up to be a real handful at WOT. Mine may be set up with the motor a little deeper than some because I fish Toledo Bend a good bit and prefer it deeper in the rougher stuff. P2 is a great boat, Its priced reasonable, fishes well, plenty fast enough, and si

I was wondering if the P2 ran differently than my Sabre. Seems to have the same hull and cap (Just a longer bow area).
The reason for my interest in bow lift at lower speeds is my wife uses my boat often. She doesn't care for speed, but likes they way the Sabre gets the bow up early, which in turn makes it easier for her to drive. The 4 blade Trophy has been excellent in the Sabre for bow lift at low speeds, and still gives excellent control at higher speeds, with very little chine.

BCB mentioned the 3 blade Fury 24. I wondered if it would be a better choice with poles and high humidity summers in Louisiana.

    What Prop are you running?
    BTW, That's one beautiful P2!!!!

I'm running a 25 fury 3 blade. I ran a 25 trophy on the sabre. The P2 feels like a different hull. It is less weight sensitive than the sabre, could be the 200 hp. It drives very well. It is a different feel than the sabre but I think better all around. I ran a 25 trophy on my son's P2. It did well but did not make as much difference on the P2 hull as it did on the sabre. It was just slower. Mid range may have been slightly better. Seems like the P2 hulls tail lifts more than the sabre and entire boat lift at lower speeds. At 45-50 it runs great. And it will run with the big boys if you want it to. There is a reason the P2 has been around a long time, its a great all around hull. If you like the Sabre you will love the P2. The only thing the Sabre did better than the P2 is loading it on the trailer and i suspect it is because of the hull difference. Its not hard to load, just takes more attention than the sabre did. However I ran a Sabre for 10 years so I guess it got to be second nature. I can't think of anything bad to say about the P2 or anything i liked better in a Sabre. It is also much much better when you are on the trolling motor.
