    "Lack-luster" Hole Shot

2000 Evinrude Ficht 200HP motor, model #E200FPLSSC, serial #G04778459, on a Triton TR20. The prop I'm currently running is a 4 blade, 25p PowerTech. Running solo with empty livewells it plane out, OK. However, add another body with full livewell and it takes 30 seconds for boat to plane out. My top end speed at 5800 RPM's is about 61 MPH, per my gps. I did raise my HP jack plate (suggestion from this forum) it did help. However, I want faster planing rather than top end speed- should I move to higher pitched prop? Different model prop?

poles or talons? 3 or 4 batteries? what is the rpm's on take off? throttle on the floor fully tucked motor? needs to be 35-38k?? mph is down slightly for the rpms you say, motor run fine? plugs good and indexed? exhaust sensor clean? what is PTP measurement? higher pitch will make it worst--my boat/motor almost the same and I run a 24p 4 blade bravo one with 7 open holes.

A power tech 25 is just a bit much for that combo but do Mactlman said and report back. At 5800 you should be running in high 60's with that boat.

Mactlman- No Talons or Poles- 3 batteries. Motor tucked and hot foot to floor on take-off. Motor been running fine since replacing faulty starter. I was told on this forum that a good starting point for Triton's pad to prop measurement is 2-2.5", with corrections made in 1/4" increments. I raised HP jack plate last fall and seemed to help. I will need to check RPMs this spring when water thaws here at Lake Shawnee, Jamestown.

tdt91 & mactlman- Correction- my original prop was a 25p Renigade- 4 blade. My current prop is 24p PowerTech #TRO4R24PCL150.

I live 3 miles from you outside jamestown. I have same motor and almost same basic boat. I also have 3 props you could try sometime? Is there vent holes in your current prop? sure you are measuring PTP correctly? that prop slips a lot or tach might be off?? with no talons, I ran a 26p raker or a 25p renegade with no issues but both were worked and vented.

what is your water pressure at the setting2-2.5???

Power techs tend to be stiff and I don't think they have adjustable vent holes.. I'm glad you live close to him so you can give him a hand. Something is off with his set up or motor it seems to me. Also the 2'' - 2.5'' PTP seem a bit high for a Triton but I'm not that experienced with Triton. Just sounds like a ton of slip. Hope you can help him figure it out.

Mactlman- Glad to hear you are close- when I saw you were in Xenia I update "my Profile" & mentioned Lake Shawnee. maybe we can hook-up sometime & help me with my set-up? I had adjusted Jack plate while my boat was on the boat lift so don't have accurate PTP dimension. Boat is in storage now so I will need to go in and measure. Not sure if the PowerTech has vent holes? I never knew how to set a prop up ("worked or vented")- just bought from the dealer and ran. Tach may be off but not sure how to check unless I take to a mechanic. Sounds like I still have a lot to learn from you all.

TDT91- I'm glad that Mactlman lives close to me, too. Would be very helpful to have someone show an ol' dog how to set this rig up right. 2.5" PTP was a suggested starting point- I will measure soon and check. I would not be surprised if my 18 year old tach was off. Thanks for the assistance.

I would say the powertech prop has big blades- slight cup. Not sure what water pressure is at WOT. Again, will need to confirm details when I can get back on the water.

Just remember when the air and water temps are cold/cool you will get more power out of that motor so when you get it set up right this spring it could seem a bit slower in the heat of summer. Many of us have two props for this reason. One for spring and Fall and another for summer. Good luck, can't wait for you to get it right and see you smile through your post.

So, would you suggest I run the 24p in colder months and 25p during summer? I hope to report back with smiles :)

no the 25p in cooler air, 24p in summer--higher the pitch harder it is to turn--in the summer heat and humidity motors make less power so you go down a pitch to 24

There are but few and far between. I've made some changes (24P, 4 blade Renagade) and lowered the motor to 3.25" PTP. Much improved hole shot with 3/4 full livewells and 250 lb. partner. Tach seems to be running high at WOT (6200-6300) and top end is 62 MPH. Is 6300 too high for my motor (2000 Rude Ficht, 200HP)?
