    Question Jackplate question

    I have an Atlas 8 inch (I think) jackplate. I know there is an 8 inch and a 10 inch. Does 8 inch refer to how much it moves up and down? Or does 8 inch refer to how far it puts the engine away from the transom? The yellow tape measure on the front of jackplate that's viewable from the driver seat does not go to 8 inches. Yet I'm quite certain it's an 8 inch model jp.
