    Silver Buddy

On a scale of 1 to 5 do you find these type of baits effective for smallmouths ???

I don't know what I am doing wrong when fishing a buddy but I have never caught a smallmouth with one yet. I have even fished with a partner with both of us doing the exact same thing. He smashed them I caught nothing. They do catch jumbo sized suspended crappie though...

5 for sure. Once the smallmouth move out in water greater than 13', I always have a Silver Buddy rigged. The deeper the smallmouth go, the more effective they are. I would love to know how many Lake Erie and Chautauqua smallmouth I have caught on them. Because of their weight, you can maintain bottom contact jigging SB when the wind picks up, which in and around the Great Lakes is just about every day. For those that don't know, the north end of Chautauqua is less than 10 miles from Lake Erie.

I get lots of walleye on them too.

    5. Have had decent success with them and watched a few guys absolutely slay it with them.

I've only been throwing them for a few years. I've caught some nice fish on them.
I like to cast and jig them off the bottom.
