    ice reels

Just getting started into ice jigging, caught the crappie and perch bug!! I’ll be targeting those 2 and occasionally some rainbow trout. Are guys using ice reels or just small 1000 sized spinning reels? Any particular reels that do better in the cold conditions?

    Niven,

I used to use spinning reels but have since switched to Inline reels - they really are superior in the fact that they do not give line twist and seem to just be more manageable. 13 fishing and Frabill make good ones.

If you prefer spinning reels just use a small size reel of your choice - cleaning and re greasing with high quality grease and lube keeps them running well in frigid temperatures

I just bought 2 new BRO series reels from frabill I believe. Great little reels for $35 a piece. I do use a bigger size reel when big water fishing but it was over kill in terms of perch. I do want to try the 13 fishing open reel though.

Just need low temperature grease in them. Otherwise your drag will be junk

when outside in wind, it's open face reels, inside any type of shelter it's straight line reels all the way.

500 and 1000 series Siennas for me as well for spinning reels. Inlines 13 Freefalls are a great reel. Depends on when, where, and what you are fishing for.
