That should be at the transom near the sonar transducer so GPS and Sonar data is at the same place.
It is pretty much useless by the console since the heading sensor cannot be shared separate from the GPS. The unit itself has an internal GPS antenna.
The disadvantage is waypoints you create based on sonar returns will have a position error of the distance between the antenna and transducer. That error will be double when retuning to that waypoint from the opposite direction when created.

If you had a new Minnkota trolling motor with iPilot, the Minnkota heading sensor can be at the console since it doesn't have GPS.

Wayne, if you have the Ultrex with link and the heading sensor, is there an advantage to purchasing an additional AS GPS HS receiver? I have 3 Onix units, one at the console, two at the bow.

The Minnkota heading sensor is just a compass (heading sensor), does not have GPS. It talks to the iPilot's GPS via Bluetooth. It is used for the joggijg feature.
It has no function for a GPS/Sonar unit.

If you want heading with your units or remote GPS for waypoint accuracy, you need the AS GPS HS or similar accessory.

Make sure when you mount a puck that you won’t do something like put a duck blind with metal ribs over top of where the puck is mounted.

Just saying a guy could drive around in circles if you do this - and yes, don’t ask... LOL !
