    Check your hitch ball

I have been using a 4 inch drop hitch for 3 plus years. Bolted on ball. On our last trip went to pick up my partner, he made a joke about checking my hitch and got in the truck. We know someone that lost there ball while trailering recently and all ended up ok.

I was in the truck and decided I better check b4 we left, and sure enuff the ball was loose. I consider myself lucky.

Always check your hitch ball and make sure its tight, if u have this type of hitch.

After having the nut almost come off I now have the nut spot welded to the threads. I sure it won't back off now.

I use Red Loctite on the threads when installing a hitch ball. Never failed to this point.

Take chisel to the first threads sticking out of the nut or red loctite.

Glad nothing happened. Let me guess though, you don't grease the ball?

i weld the nut onto the ball so no one unscrews it and steals the trailer (which is locked onto the ball)

You also have to watch for wear of the ball.

I had a trailer ball snap in half just cruising down the highway . If that happens DO NOT touch the brakes . Come to a rolling stop . If you touch the brakes the trailer shoots under the truck lifting it up in till the chains get tight . It will get your attention real quick !
