If that’s seriously all your looking for I would stay at the shadow run motel in onalaska. It’s as cheap as you can get, it has nice and easy parking, it’s right next to the Blue Moon bar which has great food, it’s about 10 min from the Clinton street ramp, 10 minutes from the onalaska ramp and it has an awesome view of the lake. It’s by no means a Taj Mahal but it works for me when I go.

First 2 weeks in November. Most guys are in their tree stands and the fish are usually schooled up near wintering areas.

I think it all depends on what you are looking for in your trip; largies or smallies? pre-spawn or spawn in the spring? summer or schooling fish in the fall? slop or main channel bite?

What your strengths and preferences are will be different than mine, and may be different than the next guy, and the next, and the next. That's the great thing about the river. It changes and you can cater your trip to your strengths.

The later you go into the fall, the less competition you'll have with other fisherman and less recreational traffic on the main channel. On the other hand, you'll get into more of the hunting traffic in the backwater areas. Again, a little more information as to what you want out of a trip I think is needed before just picking "one week".
