On Friday morning it was 6 degrees here at my place. Sat we had a heat wave, it was 36 degrees at 6 AM. Today it was mid 60s at the ramp. Yesterday I put in for a while and found the water temps were in the 30s. Not surprising after several days below freezing. And most of those mornings were single digit. Today I actually found water from 42 to 51 degrees. The wind was blowing a bit when I arrived, and when I started back to ramp at about 9 I found it was blowing about 15+.
The water temps are moving up and so are the fish. Caught 5 today. All were in about 2 feet or less of water. They were there for one reason. A January spawn is happening.
I cannot tell you how many I spooked when my line fell to the top of the water. My bait would land and 1/2 way back to the boat my line would drape down and touch the water, then I would see a swirl headed off.
The only bait that caught fish was an unweighted Zoom Super Fluke with a 7/0 Gami superline hook.
The lake has some significant hidrillia and other mosses growing in the shallow waters. There are also quite a bit of grasses on top that look similar to what I call alligator grass. The water was clear to very clear.
Here is the best of them....
