    1988 390v restoration project

Hey guys picked up a new project today 1988 Ranger 390v...she was sitting in a mud pit in the back of a farm and I just didn’t have he heart to leave it sitting there to rot ...
It Matches the 362v I restored so very familiar with these older rangers ...

Anyone ever repower one of these 390v? Would like to hear some thoughts on Jackplat setback prop motor setup
Thinking 200hp pro xs 12 inch atlas jack plate 25p

anyone knownif I can get away with 225 it 250 on this boat ?

Also, has anyone ever seen a solid color paint job come from ranger ? It almost looks like it was repainted if it was it was done extremely well and has light oxidation but super easy to buff out

When you start sanding you’ll find out if it’s paint or solid factory gel...either way good luck with the project !!

Not sure it needs sanding I think heavy duty compound and polish will do it very smooth oxidation not like I’m used to

I bought the boat used with a haudralic jack plate and have never messed with it. I don't know much about setting up a boat, but according to my gps the fastest I've had it is 64. I normally run 53-54. That seems to be a good speed for the boat and me.

I believe 1994 or so was the last year for the 390V.

Not sure about the "sap like substance seeping" ......... but thought I'd give you some info on performance .......

I had a '94 391v ....... which was similar to the 390v, but with a redesigned interior with a casting deck that came all the way back to the console and the decks were higher. Mine came from the factory with a '93 Johnson GT Venom 200. I spun a 24" Raker at 6000rpm's and she regularly ran 67-69mph depending on time of year. A friend of mine put a jackplate on his ( '96 391/'96 Johnson 200 Venom) and he was typically only 1mph faster than I. I can't remember what size jackplate he had, but it was at least a 6" and no more than a 10" (I know, not much help). I can't remember how many MPH he was slower than I when he didn't have a jackplate. Apparently my hull must have been one of the faster individual hulls and I didn't realize that at the time.

I oftentimes missed that boat. All my other boats since that 391v have never lived up to that boat ........ with that said, my 'new to me' Z520 is quickly becoming my all time favorite.

    Good Luck!
