Tn river 5-6' is about all I'll run through. I usually wait till closer to 10 to take off. I'm not in a hurry, the little bit of extra idle to hit the creek or river channel just helps the motor warm up, and theres too many stumps and rocks just waiting to eat a prop.

I've fished the lakes here for over 50 years and know what's where as a rule. I have no problem running in just a couple foot of water if needed when I know the water.

If it is an area I know is safe to run, I will run across a 2ft sand bar or something on plane as long as I know there is somewhere to set down without burying the lower unit. If I don't know the water I set down when i see about 4ft and idle to get a feel for the area.

If I am familiar with the water, I can run very shallow.

if you see water, you can run it. That's my motto and it works 90% of the time 100 % of the time, or something like that :)

Anything less than 5 foot of water any the spidey sensors start to tingle. I do have a 6" hydraulic jackplate that really helps in the shallow water situations.

Just have to know where the stumps are if it less than 3’ deep, then “skin it back”. Folks are really nice down here.

I've run in <30 inches but only on a mile long sand bar that I know was consistent and only sand, anything less than 12' that I don't know is sketchy, given how my lakes transition 40' to 2' in 20' of distance don't like it and I've seen 12' tall rock.

All our lakes are shallow for most part being 10ft or less. One being 5ft mostly. I have trails marked for when water is low

On the Mississippi, if you have paint on your skeg, you're not fishing. On 13, the deepest water is center channel and is rarely more than 26'.
If you know the water level you may be able to take shortcuts over some wing dams (main channel) or closing dams (between islands). Out- side of those rules and outside of the channel markers, you need to know where the stump fields, sandbars, rock piles, humps, bumps, and lumps are at. Then too, they seem as if they move around a lot because the water level constantly is changing. We run a lot under 6' and in some areas, as low as 1 1/2 feet (backwaters). We did spend some (repair) money learning our way around. Best idea is "if your are not sure... trim up and idle". It's safe and a lot less expensive.

I actually bought a hydraulic jackplate with the intent of learning to run that shallow water. Never could shake that pucker factor. Complete waste of money!
