    Yamaha SHO's

Have two friends that want to purchase Ranger Boats with SHO's. Been beat to death......but does anyone know the real reason they are not available?
I'd be pretty pissed if I had a Yamaha dealership and couldn't get an engine for a year.......over 2000 dealers in the USA. What's up?

A Skeeter Factory Team Demo driver said in the Skeeter Boat Owners Group on FB, some other boat brands did not forecast 2018 sales correctly and got left short. He said all Skeeter models are covered for 2018. Another guy said the factory had to shut down for a short time but is up and running now. Somewhere in between there is probably as close as you will get. I doubt Yamaha will have much to say on it.

Manufacturing issue combined with small increase in sales. Mercury and others are able to get motors much quicker

Glad I have been a Skeeter guy for last 20 years. Just ordered an 18 ZX 250 and when I mentioned this to the dealer I was assured my boat will have a 250 without an extended wait. Build date is mid feb was told dealer should have it early march per Skeeter hope that's true.

Yamaha preferred manufacturers get first priority. I know someone who ordered a boat with twin yamahas that has just been completed, yet the motors wont arrive until summer!

I worked a show at a Skeeter dealership this past weekend. They have already sold over 30-40 new boats or so on the year. They said they have no delays getting motors.

The motors will go to boats first. no extra for re-powers.

Not really. 4-7% Over projected increase. That does not result in a one year backlog

I've got boat builders that purchase millions in inventory every year and they are hoping their stock will last long enough until Yamaha can catch up on backorders.

They supposedly was building or built a bigger factory as well which I’m sure slowed things down some.

The Japanese manufactures have developed a long time ago "a just in time" manufacturing philosophy. What this means is they don't have a lot of inventory on hand. Their parts suppliers follow the same inventory management system philosophy. A 4% to 7% missed demand increase could have some impact on the short term supply of their motors. If I could not get the Sho I would just hang a F series on my rig. In fact thats what I have on my Ranger and its a great motor. Maybe not as snappy of a paint scheme as the Sho.

All 4.2 motors are backordered, not just the SHO. This is not a short term impact. Unless you are a Yamaha preferred builder (obviously skeeter is), if you order a 4.2 motor today it arrives late summer-winter.

If you sell them than am sure you had a projection set for 2018. If not you out of luck.
Every 8 to 9 years yamaha makes changes to their line up. Its time for the 4.2L to be updated. We'll know for sure after Miami boat show. Hopefully they at least update the motor mounts, bracket, trim unit and stearing.

On a lighter note maybe the production of Sho props will catch up to a level to where you can get them easier.

You can't tell people that ordered a motor "sorry you need to get our newest offering even though it's not what you paid for because we decided to stop production".

They aren't about to redo their 4.2 line before it's even become obsolete, that's why they are currently expanding the sho line based on the previous power plants.

Pissing off customers, and dealers who will lose engine sales, is not a good business model. A dealer only has the capital to stock so many motors, after that they are stuck.

Even if they had a new offering at miami, anything introduced at the show usually doesn't become available till late summer

Can't do anything but hope they get their issues sorted out and back on their feet. SHO is a great powerplant

Boat manufacturers get the production models 1st over distributors. Many of them stocked up on 4.2's based on projected sales through a certain time period. Sea Hunt has a warehouse full of outboards as I'm sure some others do. As Rich stated I'd expect a tweak. Not sure why they don't use the same bracket on the 20" as they do on the 25".
