You are right. Maybe it doesn’t. I was thinking of my point 1 heading sensor. If I have a point 1 do I have to install motor guides heading sensor?

The heading sensor tells the Ultrex what direction the boat is pointed so that when you want to jog left the boat moves left relative to the direction the boat is facing.

if you mean ultrex, then yes. the ultrex heading sensor is totally separate and connects to the motor via bluetooth. the point 1 is nmea. if you look at the picture i posted, that's why i have 2 heading sensors up front. one from the unit and one for the motor

Maybe it's because the Humminbird isn't Bluetooth ---- yet

It also enhances the spot lock feature.

Gotcha, but why is it necessary? All I want it to do is go where I point it and lock where I want it to. Just curious.

It will do both those functions without the heading sensor connected, however, to lock it where you want it, the heading sensor being a magnetic compass will tell the trolling motor which direction (along with the satellites) to go and keep you on the spot.

Gotcha. So the compasses are not in the head of the motor like I was thinking.

Yes, you only need to connect it to a power source. You can try Velcro or glue or even some double sided tape if you choose

It is Bluetooth. It has to be mounted flat and have a clear line of sight to the trolling motor.
