    Ultrex Heading Sensor

Anyone know if the Ultrex heading sensor cable can be shortened without an impact to the pucks performance? The cable is way long for my installation. I prefer it not be coiled up under the bow panel. Thanks.

The Ultrex heading sensor has a power cord that you can shorten.

Thank you, I thought that was the case, but wanted to be sure!

Based on what you said in the first statement Are you planning to mount your heading on the bow? To me it sounds like that. It is recommended that you not mount it on the bow.
See instructions below. Second paragraph of warning.

So where are people mounting it? There are power cables running down bother sides of the boat all the way to the bow. And of course at rhe console. Was thinking of using a hand held compass to try to find a location without interference. Any ideas?

That paragraph in the warning doesn't say you can't mount on the bow. Mine is on bow and works fine. You can use a compass to check the location while the TM is deployed. Can install it temporarily in location while testing on the water in case you need to move it.

Heading sensor only. GPS receiver is internal to TM.

Correct it’s just a heading sensor. The gps is in the head of the motor

Why Wouldn't they put the heading sensor in the motor like the xi5?

A better question is why wouldn’t they let me use the humminbird heading sensor I already had instead of installing another one

I always assumed there are components in the head unit that would distort and give the internal compass of the heading sensor interference issues. Was not aware that the xi5 had a heading sensor
