    GM 6.2

For those of you towing with the 6.2, how do you like it? Been looking hard at an '18 Max Tow Pkg. Drove one yesterday and that 6.2 rips! Coming from a Duramax back to a gas motor and it scares me to death. I don't have a real need for the diesel anymore as all I pull is my bass boat and maybe a car hauler now and then. Can I get some input from those who pull with one?

I pull the boat in my signature with a 15 6.2 8 speed, 3.23 rear end. It pulls awesome. The days of the GM V8's and 4 speed auto trans downshifting and running 4K RPM to climb hills are over. I can pull any hill I want at 2500 - 2800 RPM. I tow in 7th typically but on the interstate, I can tow in 8th comfortably at 72-74. The Max tow pkg you drove has the 3.42 rear end but with the 8 spd trans, I don't think its needed. I came out of a 2010 6.2 6 speed, 3.42 rear end and my 2015 will tow circles around it.

Now, I've never driven a Duramax but its safe to say the 6.2 won't tow like it, but its at the top of the heap for gas motor towing.

Towing, I usually get right around 13 mpg at 70. I've gotten in the low 12's and high 13's depending on terrain and wind direction. Its not hard at all in the summer to get 20+ MPG on the interstate solo. My best is 21.5 solo with the cruise set at 75. There's a few other guys on the site who have them so hopefully they chime it. I can't imagine being disappointed with the 6.2.

I have a Yukon 6.2 and like said above it tows great. Best I have ever towed with, you really forget that the boat is back there. Hills no problem no shifting. I tow in 6th seems no different in 6 or 7 to me. I get 15mpg towing but I don't pull faster than 65 and I'm only pulling about 2800lbs. It was well worth the few bucks more to go up to the 6.2.

It's not a Duramax, but then again no 1/2 ton is. There is no substitute for torque when pulling and the 6.2 has it in spades. Get the lowest rear end you can and enjoy. There is a significant difference in the 6.2 and 5.3 when you hook something up!

The 5.3 properly geared will do what you describe, the 6.2 will do it with authority and not give up much MPG. I believe GM advises running premium fuel, at least they did with my 6.0 and 6.2. There is your difference in cost running the bigger engine.

Its not required, but I run premium in my 6.2. You gotta pay to play.....the 6.2 is so much fun its worth the extra cost of premium.

Had a 2011 with the 6.2. Traded it last year for 2016 crew cab 5.3. Three weeks ago i traded that one for 2018 6.2 8 speed. I have had 5 others with the 5.3 but this last one i just didn’t like so back to the 6.2 and I love it. Also have a Yukon with a 6.2 and that’s great also

I have a 2014 GMC 1500 Sierra Denali with the 6.2L and I agree, it is awesome. Great power, very decent mileage, and it tows effortlessly.

Took delivery of an '18 Silverado w/ Max Tow on Wednesday. Absolutely love it and can't wait to hitch the boat tomorrow morning.

Congrats, pull my Stroker with my 6.2 Yukon Denali and big difference from the 5.3 I had in my Tahoe. Like others have said if I'm going to be towing the boat I run premium in it and just around town driving I run regular. You will notice some performance difference between the 2 grades of gas.

Towed for the first time today and couldn’t be happier. First tank I filled with 89 but will try a few with 93 and she how she likes it.
