distributing oil in cylinders for winterization

    2009 250 ProXS. Serial: 1B719059

Finishing winterization. Have 1 teaspoon of dfi oil in cylinders. Want to make it is well distributed. Turning the flywheel by hand doesn’t give me enough confidence that oil is distributed. Is there a way I can crank the engine but not have it start and that will distribute oil better? If yes please tell me how in 6 year old terms. Thanks!

I am no expert and not sure if it is needed but if you have want to do it...
    Level the motor
    Hook up a water hose.
    Turn on water
Pull kill switch like you just fell out of the boat.
Crank motor for about a second.
    Turn off water
    Disconnect hose
Lower motor as far as you can to drain water for 30mins.
    Return kill switch

I think you can spin the motor a time or two without hooking up a water supply . Shouldn't hurt to do it with kill switch pulled. Just bump the starter motor with the key switch a couple times and that ought to get it. No need to crank and crank. Just bump it over a time or two.

Yeah I don’t want to hook up water at this point since I’m so late in the year getting this done.

As Don has stated in the past, anytime the motor is turning you should have water hooked up. You can ruin a new water pump very quickly. If you have the old water pump in and and plan to replace it in the spring then you are fine. An outboard drain very quickly, no worries like on an I/O.

Look up it's in the sticky. Step by step. Including grounding the plug wires. Don't hook up water.
I don't think you should use dfi oil either.

The sticky refers to grounding the plug wires to prevent "ignition". Is that is the sense of starting a fire, or starting the engine? If the latter, I have a tough time envisioning the engine starting with all the plugs sitting on the bench.

I think you're right about using PP instead of DFI

I think it's about not destroying your coils.
