A quick bump won't do a thing. When you pull the boat out of the water, water drains from the powerhead anyway. So what's the point? If you trim the motor level, it will completely drain by itself. Mercury designed it that way.

All outboards drain when trimmed down.(including the water pump) Mercury did not design or invent this.
If you DON'T design it that way it won't happen. For example, try to drain the block on your truck motor by just opening the petcock on the bottom of the radiator. Mercury (and everyone else) specifically designs the motors so that they will drain completely when level. I did not say Mercury "invented" this. The OP specifically asked about a Mercury motor, if you noticed.
