I have a 2003 150hp Mercury XR6, I was taking the lower unit off to replace the impeller. I noticed a cable going from the top to the lower unit with a silver clasp in the middle of the cable, I can not take them apart, does anyone know how to get this apart??? I do not have a service manual and have tried YouTube to see if I can find out on there. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like the line for the speedo. you can cut it and re install with a plastic union, if that is in fact, what you are referring to. a pic would be a big help!
that's a hose quick connect for speedo if you push in on ends of connector while pulling on hose should come right out
