Boat Plug for my 2005 198

My boat plug broke and I need a new one. I think this is the one I have. I just want the plug though, not the flange. Anyone know if I can just buy the plug? I don't see the need to mess with the flange.

beware the threads may be different ("fine vs coarse").

If they match up, buy the set and throw the flange away.

Yes sir agreed, will almost positively be a fine thread now and the old was course thread. I replaced my drain last and I looked for months for a coarse thread and couldn’t find one, I finally had to change the housing too.

that one will work--i had the same problem
its just plastic and the flange will bend so you can install it in your old one on the boat

If I have to remove the old one and install a whole new one, what type of sealant would you use? Marine grade silicone good enough?

My 2005 198 has coarse threads. My 1999 187 had the fine threads.

Maybe hunt on ebay or great lakes skipper website. You could also call the parts mom at C&O Marine.

I used 4200, I’m not sure if one is better than the other.

I ordered two of these and 5200 sealant to seal it up. The reason I ordered two is so if I ever lose the plug part I have a backup. Very cheap too.

I think Lea is correct, the older champs had the finer threads. My 99 does.

I might have written my post backwards above, I don’t recall which had which; but the new plugs are a different thread either way.

4200 or 5200? Isn't one of these much more permanent than the other?

I used 4200 after having so much trouble getting my jackplate off with 5200.

I would take it apart and install one of these. Can't fall out and won't break.
