Mine won’t even fit in my garage if it’s not all the way up. I found that out the hard way a few months ago when it slid back about 3/4” as my son pulled up a steep ramp. I got home, put the boat in the garage, then couldn't shut my garage door.

My interpretation of your question and my answer: from the water it depends if the trailer is sitting far enough in. Sometimes I have crank a few feet. But always tight against your roller. If not the boat will shift and rock. (Bass boats, tin) Then you could likely have serious problems.

I power load all the way up until the eye bumps the roller. On my Sabre FTD I back the trailer in until the front end of the short bunks just barely show, but are completely submerged. Pull on the trailer, let the boat settle between the bunks, give it a little gas until you feel it bump the roller. Easy peasy.

Biggest issue is always load depth. I typically load shallow to get it well centered, then get the driver to come back slowly till it push it to the bow eye. Loading is super simple this way - even on steep ramps.

If you don't load until the eye bumps the roller, you are moving the center of gravity of the load rearward, reducing the tongue weight (and risking dangerous fishtailing).

I load my Sabre with short bunks out the water about 8-10 inches. Single axle.
Dual axle I will sink the trailer more.
Idle up to it. As the boat settles, nail it. Once I feel the truck has moved up a foot, I let off!
