Max speed on a 250 SHO lower unit

I was wondering what the max speed for the 2018 SHO 250 lower unit is before you risk blow out. I have heard that a stock Mercury lower unit is good to 85 mph but never heard what it is on the Hammer lower unit. I am getting close to the 85 mark with a 2018 Bass Cat Eyra. I have hit very close to 83 and hit the limiter with a 26 T2 prop. I am in search of a 27 T2 to trade my 25 T2 for, if that could ever happen. Or is it possible to mod the 25 to a 26.5 or 27? Either will be cheaper than another new T2... $800.00. I know that the boat can handle the extra prop as I can go from 0-80 in around 30 secs.......hole shot and accelaration is incredible with this motor. So if I do throw a 27 on and get close to or over 85 will the lower unit handle the speed?

You can go from a dead stop to 80mph in 30 sec? Been in a lot of bassboats, but not seen that yet. Thats fast.

Yes, it can. Some guys have been 90+... But every boat is different so you have to be careful up at those speeds and listen to what the boat is telling you

I have seen 88 and run 85+ regularly and that's loaded normal, still haven't run her light but I might have to just to try for 90

Oh and 201pro mine goes 0-80 in 25 sec but not stock like Elwood is so his is still very impressive!

I’ve run 90.9 with my sho stock lower unit and have run 100’s of miles in the mid to upper 80’s with no issues.

WELL DONE watch the video . took a stop watched and started it when you smashed it.. and stoped it when I saw 80. very good about 31.02 seconds. also the lower unit according to wayne at hydro-tec is good up to mid 90;s but like a few people have stated every boat is different. my boat has been 90's a few times.

As stated, lower reacts a little different on different hulls. Set back and running height add influence. I run 88-90 with two and fishing load without issue. Lower has the low water pick up and fat shaft mod from hydrotec, but I’m 16” back and 3” up on p2p strung out. Listen to the boat and stay safe. Mid 90s seems to be consensus on stock lower most applications.

Is the gear case on the 300 Yamaha fishing boat motor the same as the gear case fitted to the SHO motors?

Looking to do a 40' Center Console Cat with quad 300's and need to stay with factory stock gear cases. There is no other 80 mph fishing boat with Yamaha's that I can find.

My previous cat with 400R's first run we got 94 mph with stock 28" Bravo 1's

I don't know the acceleration to 80. However with some loaner Max 5's it was 0-30 in 4.4 seconds and 0-60 in 6.3 seconds. :-)

I have a new Eyra being delivered this week with a 300R and SM lower. Should be fun. I will miss my Hammer but the 300R seemed like a better upgrade than a flash or the super charger. I also ended up with 7 years of warranty with the 300R. Hope to post a few videos but of course they will no go in the Yamaha section. Enjoyed my motor and all of the company in the Yamaha threads.

    Cheers

Where do you guys fish? Or do you fish?

    I want to stay away.

Some lakes already have speed limits. More will have. This is why.

We love to fish all of the Missouri lakes so you might want to stay home . And please don’t drive in the left lane going the same speed as the guy to your right . You make our life’s boring .

I would rather be running 80+ with someone who is responsible and capable than be in a lake with a bunch of 50 mph drunks. CJ
