    Respooling on the boat

Idea to respool your fishing reels while on the water.

Get a tarp bungie and a carabiner

Maybe about a 6” bungee. You can thread whatever spool you want on the bungee. Use carabiner to attach to seat post by wrapping bungee around and snapping carabiner to bungee cord. Casting reel spools can be spool edge on dispensing line off the top (clip carabiner on loop end around post to ball end) and have tension as well. Spinning spools can be held to allow line to come off clockwise or counterclockwise (spool held by ball, carabiner clipped to cord around post).
Problem solved for less than $5 and stores more neatly than anything you’ll buy.

I do it for free, I have a piece of broken spinning rod about 6 inches long, I stick the spool on it so it rest against an eye, then stick the other end under a hatch cover.

I just place the spool at the front "corner" of the deck with the line coming off clockwise, then put the rod tip on the right side of the spool, use my thumb and forefinger for tension, and wind away !! Quick, easy, and even works for spinning reels.

you can even use the suction cup spooler on the motor cover and stand on the front deck and respool then put it away and your set to go....

Throw the spool in the water and start reeling. It goes on perfectly ever time.

There isnt a problem to be solved that I know about.

I keep my line in a small tool box and spool out of it the same on the boat as I do in the shop.

Maybe it’s me. But I have never needed to respool in the boat.

You guys must not have any small spools.

I use shimano aldebaran and one break off a ways out and you need to re spool. Granted now I have a handful of spare aldebarans to avoid that but if Im not in a tourney or on a bite re spooling for two minutes is a nice break.

I've done it a lot after the first day of a 2 or 3 day tourney while getting ready for the next day and didn't want to drag everything to the Motel room.

I take my shoe off and put the spool in the shoe and respool. I am usually at my campsite and the boat is on the trailer when i do it.

Yup. And when I'm at home I have to fill the bathtub.

A couple years ago, I bought a plano line storage box, and it has been one of my best fishing investments to date. It makes storing line and respooling WAY easier.

I saw this trick a while back and it works great. Works best on like 600yd spools but the smaller spools work too. Done it home and on the boat.

Wow, all you need is a sharpie, put sharpie through hole of spool and hold it between your legs. re spool your reel. Seem to be overthinking things a little imo.
