While Bob Hope was doing his show in Saigon, I think 1968, I was brown water navy in the Mekong Delta. Somehow the USO sent a band with dancers from Olongopo City, Philipines and they played on top of one of our "tango" boats. It wasn't Bob Hope and Ann Margret wasn't there, but we enjoyed them. It took a lot of courage for them to come to where we were.

A good friend I fish with was with the brown water Navy also, he was a GM on a PBR. He told some of us once about duty on the backwaters of the delta, and I thought I had it bad.

Every time I think of those boats I think of Apocolypse now... One of my First team leaders in the Army was a Navy transfer and he served on one of those boats in Vietnam...

Saw Hope and all the crew, Jerry Colonna and all in 1966. Watching Ann Margret and the other Round-eyes you remembered all the "meat and potatoes" our American girls had that the locals didn't.
    Great man.

Out on a RECON and had to report to 1st CAV S2 in 66. Lt Rightenour let us go to the show... still remember Joey Heatherton in the hot pants, boots doing the pony...Was waiting to be Med Evaced out of country and Ann Margaret stopped at my cot and said "Hi Soldier, how are you? I actually couldn't speak...I just stammered and stuttered when I tried to say "you are my dream girl"....Bob Hope was The BEST!!!!
