175 SHO making a hissing or whistling sound

I don't know how to describe it. It was like a hissing, whistling or a mid to high pitch sound. I noticed it on the way back to the ramp to day. Has anyone experienced any weird noise like this?

I've noticed it a few times on my 2015 175sho. The noise I heard almost sounds like a whistle caused by the wind at 60 mph. Mine would stop as I backed off the throttle and slowed the boat down some. Like I said it has happened to me probably 10 times in the last 2 years. I've had no issues with my motor so I've never thought anything of it.

My 250 SHO will make the same noise after a long WOT run. I remember reading a post on the boards awhile back and I believe someone mentioned the noise comes from the drive or crankshaft. I don't believe it's anything to worry about unless you had a vibration or heard more of a grinding noise. The noise has always gone away on the next start, but returns only after long WOT runs.

If you lube the driveshaft thoroughly with the heavy duty and pricey Yamaha grease once a year that should completely eliminate it.
