I use a 7' medium action Fenwick spinning rod. It's an older rod with a nice parabolic bend.

I know Powell is coming out with a spinning for this application. I think it's like 7-3.

Dobyns 704cb glass,,, old metanium mg. I think the reel plays a big part in casting the lighter lures.

I would agree....especially for the #5 size. Even though many of the reels today can handle 1/4 oz. I imagine a reel designed for lighter weights would give the best results. However, I think a reel designed for light lures would still have a hard time if not used on the right rod.

My favorite rod is an older HMG model GTC 844 with a TD-Z 105H. Rod is rated 1/8-1/2 oz.

I purchased one of the new Cashion Shad rap rods last week. I got the 6'9" med/mod fast but it's a little more on the fast side. The rod works perfect for throwing the #5-7 raps.

I use my spybait rod, which is a 7'2" Daiwa cielo ML. Some lead on the rear treble hooks with casting distance without sacrificing action.

I just picked up a G Loomis CBR783 and a steez for this exact purpose. Its great so far and the fact that I got the rod for 1/2 price didn't hurt.
