Usually wont clean out the thermostats because once they close, the debris is trapped in there until they open again. Don't know about the strainer.

It will flow water around them, but will NOT clean them. Those components require manual removal, cleaning, and installation.

I have the same motor. How do you back flush the engine?

At the back of the motor there is a flushing connection. You can connect your water hose directly to the motor and turn on the water. It will flush out the cooling system. I do not run the motor when doing this.
