    had some new lids made

Had a couple of lids that were really warped or bowed

    .

So I had a friend weld me up some out of aluminum.

my old doors were 3/4 plywood that had been overlayed with fiberglass.

the aluminum doors are just 1/8 thick

they seem strong enough to hold my weight with out flexing when I walk on them

I am going to have to put a 3/4 piece of plywood around where the latch goes to make the latch work.

was just wondering if I should just cut a piece a plywood for the whole door and glue it to the aluminum from underneath

then it will seal the door to the boat lip

Have been using weldwood glue for the rest of the boat carpet. I assume it will work just the same on the aluminum and the plywood also.

    Whats y'all's thoughts on this.
    Thanks Rob

I need some made also. I like the channel reinforcement. That should do the job.

well I cut out both think i will just go with the block for the latch. i might get a piece of that 4 x 8 sheet of 3/4" foam with the aluminum foil they use on houses and glue it to the back. I sandpapered and used a wire brush on the lids. Anybody know if the weldwood glue will stick to the aluminum lids ??? any suggestions

Not sure about my friend doing it again.
I did speak with this guy and he was very reasonable.

Weldwood will stick. Everyone uses it on aluminum lids for carpet and this who don't use a similar 3M contact adhesive.

How much did he want for one lid? I need a deck extension made this winter and I was thinking I would do it the same way you did. But if his prices are good I might as well let them do it.

He quoted me $104 a piece on each door $20 shipping for both doors. Just email your dimensions to him and he will send you a quote.

I just had had this guy build me some doors as he’s just a little drive from me. I will say the quality and workmanship were top notch. I’d definitely have him build more when the time comes. For both livewell lids and rod locker lids and tax it was 400 even. However I don’t have to worry about them breaking again.
