    If your holes are 2" you can cut a piece of pvc pipe about 3/4" for spacer. Do it on boats we build all the time

    No need for the plywood backer. The support brace is plenty. Aluminum lids are the only way to go. My uncle use to make em for Champion, Viper, Hawk ect ect. Last I heard he still built em for Legend.

    My Sprint has all aluminum lids with that support welded in with no foam or backer.....It's a 98, no warpage or excessive heat.

    All mine are aluminum from the factory on my old ProCraft, 27 years later they still lay flat and true. I used outdoor carpet adhesive from Lowes to re-carpet mine years ago and it is still holding on there. You should get many trouble free years out of it.
