    Upper James Info Needed

    Are there any James River boat ramps above Richmond that will accommodate a 14ft jon boat with a 15hp motor? Not looking to float from ramp to ramp, just want to fish and check out a few sections of the Upper James. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Maidens area is ok. Also Watkins area is ok.

    Guess it depends on the time of year. Watkins which is close to me is okay. From there you can go about a mile up river to the first set of rapids until you know where the prop busters are. Down river to the dam is good water but lots of boat traffic during summer months. Maidens is shallow up and down and a couple of weeks ago you could walk across without getting ankles wet. Some guys with jet drives launch here. There are some other ramps Westview, Columbia, Cartersville that have there place. I haven’t been up river in years.
