22p or 23p
Right now I am running a 23 pitch prop and getting 52 rpm's. Somemone told is if I go to a 22p prop I would get more RPM's. Is that true? I have NO clue about this stuff.

Yes. decreasing pitch will increase rpm. Rule of thumb is 1 inch of pitch (up or down) equates to a 200 rpm change, so dropping down from 23 inch to a 22 inch prop should bring rpm up to 5400.

Ok thanks. Question. I am getting about 5200 rmp's and running 54 mph withe a 23 p prop. If I go to a 22 will I see enough of an increase in speed to notice?

No, normally all you do is increase your rpm's. Depending on what boat and motor your running you may need to do more than change prop pitch to gain speed. If your running a four blade change to a three blade, change motor height, have prop worked or add a jack plate.

I am running a 3 blade tempst 23 p. I am running 5200 rpm and 54 mph on a 18'8 cobra

What motor and jack plate? Three blade is probably the best prop for your boat.

sorry manual jack plate and a Merc 150 EFI.

Might want to test a Laser2. You should want the HIGHER RPM's for the health of the motor, not necessarily for more speed.

Have you ever checked the fuel lines on you boat and made sure it doesn't have the old gray with red letter fuel lines on it? If it does they need to be changed and everything on this list needs to be done to your boat and motor. http://www.bbcboards.net/showthread.php?t=22490 Check you prop to pad height too because a good running 150 should be able to turn a 23" prop to 5500 rpm on a Cobra it's not very heavy only 1250-1300lbs.
