The fact that big corporations and big donors want net neutrality to end is all you really need to know to tell how it's going to be when they get what they want. They'll get richer we'll get screweder.

The fact that people who binge watch 4k movies on Netflix or play their video games 24/7 while living their parents basement are all up in arms over losing net neutrality is all you really need to know.

By all means explain to me why Verizon or others who build an infrastructure on their dime and then the govt forces them to allow other companies to take advantage and clog up that infrastructure without paying a dime.

While you have a point, I already pay the corporations that want it to continue, they're content providers. The ones that want it to end are ISPs and they want me to pay them extra for access to the content I want to see. Sure they'll hide it in fees they charge to Netflix and YouTube, who will then pass that cost on to me. If net neutrality stays, I pay who I'm now paying for the things I want from them. Netflix, Amazon, and Google.

Just because net neutrality was Obama era legislation doesn't make it bad.

They didn't build infrastructure on "their dime" they built infrastructure on money generated from sales to consumers, most of them in places where they only had one choice in providers and those providers were protected from most competition in order to guarantee their profits. Not to mention all of the taxes they've collected specifically earmarked for broadband expansion that those same corporations have pocketed and not build the promised fiber infrastructure they were getting the funds for. Please don't paint them as humble merchants selling their labor, they've been paid enough for us to have tier 1 internet yet we are far behind the rest of the developed world.

People will realize this is not a good thing when ISP's get to throttle content that is not on their network, for example and just an example for reference. The isp owns netflix so they want people paying them, people forced to used them because they are the only choice want to use hulu. Guess what, that traffic gets throttled back so it does not work.

Same goes for news, you want to see fox but your isp partners with cnn. Guess who gets thru to you......

If FedEX, UPS, DHL, Amazon and others decided that they were going to start delivering with their own trains, do you think they should have to pay anything to CSX to use and maintain the tracks? What if Uber decided that they were going to start their own train service. Uber wants to attach their own car to Amtrak trains. Should Uber pay Amtrak?

To all of those that say this is a good thing, I can't wait to hear your tune change when they start charging you more to access sites like ESPN, Reddit, Netflix, YouTube, or even this fishing forum as part of some "premium internet access" package, similar to what they're already doing with cable. And then they're going to limit your home internet usage to some absurdly low GB per month that even the average user will struggle to stay under.

Do many people live with no choice but to use one provider? I have atleast two providers of physical cable, options via satellite, and cellular and I can even use a digital antenna if I want to. Netflix is not a right.

The "track owners" in this scenario were given gobs of tax money to provide access to customers with assurances they wouldn't face competition in their regions. They even pocketed some of that tax money instead of using it for infrastructure. Now they want to force us to pay them again and more this time.

By this reasoning then people on Verizon internet should only be allowed to access servers on the Verizon back bone. People on Comcast should only access servers on the Comcast back bone and so on and so on... I am on Comcast and I am not paying Verizon to access servers on their network and neither are you. So if Netflix, Amazon Video, Hulu are paying their local internet provider money to access the Internet then why should they have to pay Verizon, Comcast, Time Warner and others an access fee? Then these companies can slow access to these companies and say "Hey if you want people to be able to download movies in SD then you have to pay this much extra, if you want them to be able to download movies in HD then it will be this much extra..." all this "Extra" is on top of their already normal access fee.

Yeah what a politically evil move to make all internet traffic equal. So socialist, much oppression, wow. Had to be an evil political plot, at least now we will be free from the socialist perils of internet packet equality.

Do you own a cable company or something? Contrary to what is being said here these companies are paid by consumers for the use of the infrastructure. That's ignoring taxes etc. They are paid for your access to the internet and that should include any content on the web. Additionally contrary to what has been suggested here they aren't going to limit total usage as they could already do that and they moved away from that model. They may however use this to charge for things like social media or tv programming that is available online. Rude congratulations you now have a situation where the cable company can play North Korea and dictate what I watch, read, and who I communicate with.
