Question Need pics and info! 2004 295 Pro XL control panel

    Hi Guys,

I bought a 2004 295 Pro XL this past October. The lettering on the control panel switches is somewhat worn off. If anyone can provide a close up pic of the 12 switch buttons on the right side panel of the driver's console...

I could also use a pic of the 3 bow panel switches on the starboard side. The lettering is completely worn off.

I don't need to replace the switches, just the toggle covers. I have a source that sells the correct Contura switch covers for $5 each (and custom letters them as well).

I also noticed that there are undesignated switches on console and bow panels marked AUX. Are these free to use as we wish? If so, I intend to use them for my HDS units and StructureScan HD module, which will have their own designated custom lettered switches.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.... Thanks!

LOL! Must be nice to be able to still use your boat. My boat is in the garage and it's not going anywhere. It's -16*C / 3*F out there. Thanks, man!

I just got my boat... and only had a chance to use it 3 times....

I had a heck of a time figuring out the hydraulic jp for hole shot and to get up on plane. I'm not sure if it's the wrong prop (24 Trophy) or just me, but 63 mph at 4900 rpm (225 Opti) just doesn't seem right. I couldn't get the revs up.

I have a 25 Trophy to try when the water softens up in the spring.

You should be able to run faster than 63 with a 225. The fastest I've got my boat to run is 67 mph by myself with a 25 Trophy. I'm not sure if the newly install jackplate will help with the speed or not but it doesn't really matter to me because I really never like to run over 55 mph, but if it helps in speed then its a plus.

Something is wrong. A 295 is rated for a 200HP and with a 200HO Rude they run about 72MPH. Even with the Talon your rig should run 70 GPH with that 225 Opti. Going to a larger pitch prop will only lower your RPMs

I'm thinking something is wrong in the lower end gearing (new bottom end installed last summer by PO, and he thinks the same). How can I check that?

I don't think it's the LU because your RPMs are just way to low with a 24P prop and a 225HP. Get the motor checked out.

I really don't know anything about the Mercs and would suggest you go over to the Merc forum for help with things to check. Like mentioned though you would check out compression.

Well, I checked the compression and it's all good. 115 - 120 psi across the board. Not bad for a motor with 207 hrs. Then I got thinking...

The Hot Foot was sticking a little when I got the boat and wouldn't return to idle unless I pulled it back on it with the top of my foot. My partner, who's a marine mechanic, came down over the holidays and double checked the compression, then checked the throttle cable and it found that it was set wrong. It wouldn't allow wide open throttle. He said that we'll adjust or replace the cable when the water softens up in the spring.

    Bonus!

... but my wife was really pissed, since I was using a mix of hot/cold water and turned part of the driveway into a skating rink for a few days. I bought her a newer Escape SLE for Xmas, so she clammed up.

You my have the wrong prop ? Try a 25P Tempest plus set @ 3.50 below pad and rise until you lose speed or water pressure ,then drop it down a 1/4 inch . Also move plate 1/4 inch at a time . It also a good time to have your injector and fuel system clean by the pros if you have never had it done .
I have a very low hour 2004 225 EFI on the bench ready to be put back togather because of a bad injector . had them test and 3 was out of spec . These littler black ones needs to be clean often .

These motor 's are power house , but the weak link or the injectors . 200/225/ 250 EFI
